Should i use bumper pads in the crib for my baby ?
I'm due in two weeks and finally got the nursery ready. When i had my first child in 2008 i never heard of this rule so she used it up to a year old. But in the last few weeks people have been telling me its causing SIDS or the baby's are putting their face into the bumper pads and stopping them from breathing. So what is the actually word now ? are they aloud and if not why? And should i leave it in there ?
The AAP does not recommend putting pillow like bumpers in a crib. This is linked to an increased risk of SIDS, both because of babies suffocating in them and because it traps carbon dioxide in the crib at baby's level. There "breathable bumpers" that are mesh so they do not seem to carry these risks but also have the safety of blocking the crib slats. Check Amazon.com, that's where I got mine.
